Greetings Lodge Members and Coworkers,
WOW! It is hard to believe that August is already here. I hope everyone is enjoying the lazy, hazy days of summer. Your Lodge is open and air-conditioned and don’t forget we cook for you on Thursday and Friday so you are not stuck in a hot kitchen. Member support is the foundation for maintaining your Lodge.
I attended the Moose International convention held in Tampa, Fl. What an amazing gathering of Moose members from all over the United States, Canada and Great Britain. We had three jammed packed days of learning and sharing about our great organization and experiencing fraternalism, and you better believe when 3,000 Moose members descend on a city there are going to be some fun times and awesome memories. But it wasn’t all fun and games, a lot of time was spent in meetings and workshops learning how to help our fraternity grow and be able to continue to support our children in Mooseheart and seniors at Moosehaven. We hope to bring some of the new ideas to Janesville Moose Lodge so look for exciting things in the future.
I want to share with you one experience I had at the convention. Scott Hart, the Director General of our fraternity did a little experiment similar to undercover boss. He visited several lodges around the United States to gauge the” atmosphere” of the lodges. What he discovered was quite eye-opening: several of the lodges did not check cards, the bartender and the members that were in the social quarters did not engage him in conversation to the point he felt unwanted. So it’s safe to say these Lodges did not fare well in their evaluation. And they did not make a positive impression. There were some lodges he visited were the exact opposite; cards were checked and he was made to feel welcome in these moose homes. Stop and think, how do you think Janesville Moose Family Center would fare? We want to be known for following the rules and being the friendliest face in town; so let’s all try to make new members and visitors feel welcome, that is what a fraternity is all about.
Everyone mark your calendar for the annual Wisconsin Moose Association Convention being held in Fond du Lac, September 13 – 17. It promises to be a great time for learning. The men’s official visitor is
Director General, Scott Hart and the women’s official visitor is Grand Regent, Kim Petit. I look forward to seeing some of you there.
A thought in closing, any organization is only as good as its members, we have some great members here in Janesville and I look forward to some great things happening. As always my door is always open to anyone who would like to discuss concerns, but the best place to be in the know is still our Lodge meetings held the first and third Mondays of the month.
Fraternally Yours,
Matt Boardman, Administrator
